Scholarship Program through DVFA: As a live-in firefighter, you'll have access to our scholarship program, offering $2,000 per semester for undergraduate programs and $1,000 for master's students, helping you alleviate the financial burden of higher education.
Tiller Opportunity: Aetna HHL is home to one of only 3 Tractor Drawn Aerials in New Castle County outside of Wilmington. By becoming a live-in, you could have the opportunity to ride our tiller and possibly even become tiller cleared!
Fitness Facility: The fitness facility at Station 7 boasts a spacious gymnasium equipped with state-of-the-art treadmills, free weights, bench presses, squat racks, a smith machine, and various other tools tailored to promote physical well-being and enhance overall health.
Complimentary Uniforms and Gear: Live-ins are provided with all necessary uniform items, ensuring you're equipped for duty with shirts, uniform pants, job shirts, and class B uniforms. Additionally, proper PPE is purchased and issued to Live-ins on an as needed basis.
Points System for Additional Hours Staffed: We value dedication and commitment. Earn recognition and rewards through our points system for staffing additional hours, showcasing your willingness to go above and beyond. Earn rewards ranging from company shirts, a brand new Gopro, or even a brand new leather helmet.
Free Training Classes: Expand your skill set with access to free classes offered by the Delaware State Fire School. Aetna HHL also has full access to the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI) Network of classes. This includes Fire, Rescue, Leadership, BLS and ALS classes, all free of charge. Additionally, opportunities for additional outside training, such as FDTN, are available on a case-by-case basis.
Gain Invaluable Experience: Join one of Delaware's busiest fire companies and gain hands-on experience responding to emergencies. With over 81 working fires in the 2023 calendar year alone, you'll be part of a team dedicated to making a difference.
Private Housing: As a live-in member of the Aetna, Hose, Hook and Ladder Fire Company, you'll reside in a comfortable 4-bedroom, 1.5-bathroom townhouse. Conveniently situated just across the street from our station and mere minutes away from the University of Delaware's campus, our housing offers you private bedrooms and includes all utilities.
