Fire Police

Fire Police are a national entity of their own, however each fire company is responsible for providing their own fire police to respond when needed during an emergency call.

Fire Police act as an important supplement to the operations of the Fire and EMS services. When requested, a fire police officer responds to the scene in their private vehicle to assist in traffic control (i.e. diverting traffic at an accident scene or shutting down roadways), crowd control, or other operation as directed by the Incident Commander. To become a fire police officer, a member has to go through training and certification and be sworn in by the New Castle County Sheriff. At that time, they would be allowed to have status and assume their responsibilities within Aetna.
