September 29, 2017

At 1200 hours Aetna along with mutual aid from Mill Creek Fire Company - Stations 2&21, Cranston Heights Fire Company, Christiana Fire were dispatched to the unit block of Wilbur Street for a residential fire. Chief 9-8 arrived on scene to find a 2 story single-family dwelling with fire showing from the 2nd floor. This added New Castle County Paramedics and University of Delaware Emergency Care Unit to the response. Crews found a fire in a 2nd floor which was quickly controlled and searches were negative. The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office is handling the investigation and Chief Bowerson had Newark Command.

September 13, 2017

At 1201 hours Aetna was dispatched to the 2800 Block of Summit Bridge Road for a motor vehicle collision. Crews arrived to find a 2 vehicle collision involving a large commercial vehicle and a pickup truck with one driver trapped. Extrication was quickly completed and both drivers were transported to CER. Delaware State Police are handling the investigation and Assistant Chief Sands had Newark Command.

Chief Bowerson and Vice President Seador attended a dinner meeting with the the Newark Delaware Rotary Club. At the conclusion of the dinner, Aetna was presented with a generous donation. Our thanks to the rotary club for their hospitality and public service.

The Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company would like to congratulate David Carey on his recent promotion to Assistant Chief of Career Services. David has been with Aetna for 11 years and recently held the position of Crew Manager. David will now oversee the operations for a staff of 14 full time employees.

At 1857 hours last evening Aetna along with New Castle County Paramedics, and Delaware State Police Aviation Section were dispatched to the unit block of Stardust Drive in Melody Meadows for a pedestrian struck. Crews arrived to find a critically injured patient and worked seamlessly to began treatment. The patient was transferred to DSP Helicopter Trooper 4 and was transported to A.I. duPont Hospital for Children| Nemours. It is rare that we are able to follow-up about the condition of our patients but we were fortunate to see this update today and received permission from his parents to share. We are very proud of the actions of our crews and wish Grayson and his family the best during his recovery.

Howarth from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department as he presents case studies of two recent mansion fires in Maryland. This training is open to all first responders and is free of charge. Squad 9, Engine 9, and Quint 7 are currently assisting Singerly Fire Company with a 3rd alarm multi-residential fire on Cherry Hill Rd in Elkton, MD.

This afternoon the members of Aetna and Christiana Fire joined together for some fellowship and a cookout at Station 9. Hopefully the start of a new tradition!
