At 1753 hours Aetna along with Newark Delaware Police Department, New Castle County Paramedics, and Delaware State Police Aviation Section helicopter Trooper 4 were dispatched to the intersection of South Main Street and Apple Road for a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle. Crews worked to stabilize the patient, who was later flown to Christiana Hospital by Trooper 4. Newark Police Department are handling the investigation, see their page for updates. This marks the 4th motorcycle accident in Newark since Sunday. We would like to remind all riders to wear proper safety equipment, especially helmets, and for all other drivers to remain observant for motorcycles.

At 0415 hours Aetna along with mutual aid from Christiana Fire, Volunteer Hose Co., and Singerly Fire Company were dispatched to the unit block of Airdrie Drive in the Lexington Farms Development of Glasgow for a residential structure fire. Crews arrived to find fire showing from the Charlie side of the structure which added New Castle County Paramedics, Odessa Fire Company, Delaware City Volunteer Fire Company, No. 1, Inc., Station 15, Port Penn Fire Company, and Wilmington Manor Fire Company to the response. Crews quickly located fire on Charlie side that had extended to the 2nd floor and attic. Units remained on scene for 3 hours extinguishing the fire and performing overhaul. There were no injuries, the Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office is handling the investigation, and Chief Bowerson had Newark Command.

Yesterday Aetna's EMS Division hosted its annual bike team training. The group learned such things as how to best ride through crowds, launch up curbs, emergency braking and turning, and defensive tactics.

Bike teams are deployed at Delaware Stadium events such as football games, Newark parades and downtown events, and various foot races throughout our district.

Engine and Ladder 9 responded to this 2 alarm fire earlier in the evening as well as several other emergencies.

At 1303 hours Aetna along with New Castle County Paramedics were dispatched to the Ogletown Bypass Eastbound (Route 273) and Ruthar Drive for a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle. Crews arrived on scene to find an apparent single vehicle collision with the rider suffering from critical injuries. The Delaware State Police are handling the investigation, check their page for updates and additional information as it is released. DelDOT has rerouted traffic from 273 Eastbound onto Ruthar Drive, check their page for updated traffic information.

This morning Engine 9, Ladder 9, Gator 9, and Chief 9-8 took part in a training on low angle rescues conducted by the New Castle County High Angle and Confined Space Rescue (HACSR) Team in the Middle Run Valley Nature Area. This training helped prepare our members for off-road and off-trail rescues in the variety of parks in the Newark area.

This morning, Reverend James Jackson from St. Johns-Holy Angels parish in Newark prayed over and blessed firefighters, EMTs and trucks from the Aetna to mark the feast of St. Florian, the patron saint of firefighters.

This afternoon Squad 9 and ambulance A-8 assisted Singerly Fire Company with a motor vehicle collision with entrapment. Crews removed both front doors and the roof to extricate the patient.
