At 1800 hours, Aetna was dispatched for an injured cyclist on a trail in a heavily wooded area of the Middle Run Valley Natural Area. Initial reports placed the patient closer to the Tri-State Bird Rescue where crews began to respond. The New Castle County 911 Center was able to "ping" the 911 caller's phone giving a location closer to Stoney Brae Road. Crews made access to the patient via Gator 9 and on foot arriving at 1837 hours. Basic Life Support care was initiated and due to the severity of the patient's injuries Advanced Life Support was requested bringing both New Castle County Paramedics and Delaware State Police Aviation Section to the scene. The patient was placed onto a backboard and was secured to a Stokes basket to be carried out of the woods. Gator 9 transferred the patient to the landing zone and treatment continued in ambulance A-8 while awaiting the arrival of the helicopter. The patient was flown to Christiana Hospital by Trooper 4 and crews returned to service. Deputy Chief Schall had Newark Command and crews that responded included: 9-8, Deputy 9, 7-8B, Gator 9, Ladder 9, Quint 7, A-8, Medic 3, and Trooper 4.

Just after midnight Engine 9, Quint 7, and Deputy 8 assisted the Singerly Fire Company on a 2nd alarm commercial structure fire on Stonegate Boulevard.
