LESTER Franklin "Frank" Beers

Frank joined Aetna in 1958 serving as Chief of the Department 1967-1970 and Company President from 1991-1992. Frank also served on the board of directors for 2 terms. Frank was also a longtime pump operator instructor and driving instructor for engines, tractor, and tiller for the Ladder. Frank was chairman for the purchase of the first tractor drawn Ladder truck which was delivered in 1971. His presence will be missed and we are grateful for his 63 years of dedicated service to our department and the community.

William “BINGO Bill” HolenA JR.

William John “Bingo Bill” Holena, Jr., age 43, of Newark, DE, passed away suddenly on Friday, February 5, 2021.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, on April 1, 1977, he was the son of William John and Georgette J. (Chervenitski) Holena, Sr. of Edwardsville, PA. Bill was a 1995 graduate of Bishop Hoban High School in Wilkes-Barre, PA and a 1999 graduate of Pennsylvania State University of University Park, PA, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Development & Family Studies. He worked for MBNA and Bank of America for many years prior to making his most recent employment as a Vice President of Debit Card Operations for BNY Mellon in Wilmington.

Bill served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT for the Edwardsville (PA) Fire Dept., beginning in 1995. He served as a volunteer firefighter for Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Co., beginning in 2005, where he also served on the board of directors and spearheaded countless fundraising projects, including Monday Night Bingo. Bill was also a Canal Little League coach and served on the board of directors. He was a member of the Hiram Lodge No. 25 A.F. & A.M. and a noble with Nur Shrine in New Castle. Bill was newly initiated on January 27, 2021, into the Newark Elks Lodge No. 2281.

Bill was preceded in death by his infant brother, William Holena; fraternal grandparents, William and Joan Holena; and maternal grandparents, George and Henrietta Chervenitski. He is survived by his wife of over 20 years, Tamara A. (Kratz) Holena; daughters, Victoria and Veronica, both at home; sister, Jennifer Holena of Oceanside, CA; brothers-in-law, Timothy Kratz (Beth Ann) and Thomas Kratz (Leslie), both of Nanticoke, PA; and numerous nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Edward A. "Ed" Danisavich, Jr.

Edward A. “Ed” Danisavich, Jr., age 82, of Newark, DE, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020.

Born in Pottsville, PA on February 21, 1938, he was a son of the late Edward A. and Veronica (Stanonis) Danisavich, Sr. Ed proudly served in the U.S. Army. He later worked as a senior lab technician at DuPont Co. for 35 years.

Ed was a member of the Delaware Orchid Society, Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder and a life member of the VFW. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking. Ed was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister. He looked forward to visiting West Park Elementary School, where he enjoyed mentoring the children.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth (McCoog) Danisavich. He is survived by his daughter, Beth Ann Danisavich; siblings, Paul “David” Danisavich and Dorothy Ward; several nieces and nephews; and his dear friend, Linda Letson.

Eugene Christmann III

Eugene Christmann III, age 72, of Newark, DE for 67 years, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at Select Specialty Hospital in Wilmington, DE.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on September 3, 1947, he was a son of the late Eugene and Harriet (Reimers) Christmann, Jr. Eugene graduated from Christiana High School in 1965 where he was a high school athlete and played baseball and basketball. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1966 during the Vietnam War and served on the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Tanager.

Eugene started his working career as a Wilmington Police Officer and subsequently became a Newark Police Officer. He left the police force after four years and started his own business doing home improvements. Eugene later transitioned his business into roofing and asphalt. He then worked various jobs in security, paving and sales. For the past twelve years, Eugene volunteered and then worked part time for Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder in Newark, DE, as a first responder and ambulance driver.

In addition to his twelve-year membership with Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder, he was also a member of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) as well as a volunteer EMT with Right Coast Pro Wrestling, where they added a second star to their logo in honor and memory of Eugene.

A dedicated family man, Eugene was completely devoted to his wife and two boys. He and his son, Jamie, had a particularly strong bond. In his spare time, Eugene enjoyed golfing, going to auctions, yard work and working with his hands. Known for his great sense of humor, he was liked by all and had many friends, including his weekly Sunday Morning Breakfast Group.

In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by his son, Eugene Scott “Chris” Christmann. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Gail (Hunsinger) Christmann, with whom he would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 1st; son, Jamie Christmann; and brother, Jon Christmann of Timonium, MD.

George B. Robinson, Jr.

George B. Robinson Jr. of Newark, DE, age 74, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2020. George was born on October 14, 1945 in Newark, DE to the late George B. Robinson Sr. and Hilda (Reed) Bromwell.

George joined Aetna Hose Hook & Ladder Company in Newark, DE in 1967 where he was an active firefighter and driver in his early years, president for 6 years, director for 30 years and was the hall manager for over 30 years. He was also a Mason member of the Hiram Lodge #25 in Newark, DE. He had also managed several movie theaters. George was a John Wayne fan, collected Hess trucks and also loved and collected bald eagles. He loved Disney World and traveled there often.

George is survived by his daughter, Elaine (Katy) Waters of Newark, DE; son, John C. Robinson of Odessa, DE; stepson, Glen A. Bennett of Wilmington, DE; brother, Frank R. Robinson and his wife, Monica of Lewes, DE; 4 grandchildren: Heather Tharp, Amanda Tharp, Jacob Robinson, Cody Robinson; and 6 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his wife, Reva Mae Robinson and his sister, Sallie Robinson Klinger.

John G. "Jack" Rust

John G. "Jack" Rust, age 92, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 22, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Georgetown, DE on July 5, 1926, he was a son of the late George Fred and Ella Mae (Holton) Rust, Sr. Jack proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. He then worked as a first class lineman on electric poles with the City of Newark and retired at the age of 79, after a long career.

Jack enjoyed golfing and devoted many hours as a member of the Newark Country Club, proudly achieving his once in a lifetime hole in one. Jack was a generous soul, especially to those at the Newark Country Club. He was an avid sports fan and supporter of the UD athletic programs. Jack was a member of the American Vets, American Legion and life member of Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his adopted son, Michael Rust. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Clara M. (George) Rust; son, W. John Rust (Vicky) of Charlotte, NC; brother, George Fred Rust, Jr. (Patricia) of Georgetown, DE; sister-in-law, Ruth Rust of Georgetown, DE; 3 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Chester Norman Barnett, Jr. “Chooch”

Chester Norman Barnett, Jr. “Chooch”, age 76, of Newark, DE, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2019.

Born in Wilmington, DE on September 14, 1942, he was a son of the late Chester Norman and Anita (Redmond) Barnett, Sr. Chester graduated from Conrad High School and then worked for B & O Railroad as an engineer, retiring after 23 years of dedicated service.

A history buff, Chester enjoyed discussions about the Civil War and WWII. He was a life member of Aetna Hose Hook & Ladder Co., and prior to joining Aetna he was a member of the Elsmere Fire Company No. 1, Minquas Fire Company and Wilmington Manor Volunteer Fire Company, Station 28. Chester was an avid musician who enjoyed participating in marching band, drum & bugle corps and fife & drum corps. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren participating in each of them.

In addition to his parents, Chester was preceded in death by his son, Adam Barnett. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Marjorie Ellen Barnett; daughter, Eve Marie Minner (Carl); brother, Jeff Barnett; and grandchildren, Haley Gill and Brendan Minner.

Curtis E. Baldwin

Curtis E. Baldwin, age 54, of Wilmington, DE died Wednesday, October 24, 2018 with his family by his side.

Curt was born in West Virginia, the son of the late Owen Baldwin, Sr. and Dorothy Richardson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Baldwin and sisters, Kathy Seehafer and Diane Lockley.

Curt was a career firefighter and EMT with New Castle County at Minquadale Fire Co. and a life member of Aetna HH&L Co. of Newark, Delaware. He was an instructor at the Delaware State Fire School and was owner and operator of Advanced CPR & First Aid Training.

Curt is survived by his wife Julie; her parents, Bob and Della Rickards; brother-in-law, Scott Rickards. Curt is also survived by his brother, Owen Baldwin, Jr. and two sisters Karen Dozier (Russell) and Tammy Legates (Bill). Additionally, he will be missed by his extended family as well as numerous close friends, and his English Bulldogs, Rocco, Brynn, and Bella.

Arlynn Quinton Hall Jr.

Arlynn Q. Hall, Jr., 50, of Newark, Delaware passed away at his home on Saturday, February 17, 2018 after a long illness.

Arlynn was born in Wilmington, the son of Lonna (Schimmelpfennig) and the late Arlynn Q. Hall, Sr. He was a graduate of Christiana High School and earned a degree from Kaplan University. Arlynn had a number of jobs in his life but his true passion was being volunteer firefighter and EMT for Aetna Fire Company for over 26 years. He was also a NASCAR Firefighter, a Master Mason of the Hiram Lodge, and a member of the VFW Post 475 Auxiliary.

Arlynn is survived by his wife of 15 years, Therese (Donovan) Hall; his mother, Lonna Hall of Milwaukee, WI; his brother and sister-in-law, Zachary and Danielle Hall of Seaford; his sister and brother-in-law, Sabrina and Gordon Mann of Philadelphia, PA; his stepmother, Charlotte (Willey) Hall of Lewes; his beloved cat, Willie; many nieces and nephews; and many friends, all of whom will miss his humor and someone who was always available to lend a hand when one was needed.

Norma Lee Knox

Norma Lee Knox of Newark, DE passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017. She was born in 1936 to the late Walter and Edna (French) Foraker.

Norma was a graduate of Newark High School Class of 1954. She was a homemaker prior to pursuing a career with the Christina School District as a baker and eventually a manager of several elementary school cafeterias. Norma was dedicated to the Firefighters Ladies Auxiliary at the local and county levels. She was a life member of the Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company Ladies Auxiliary with 53 years of active service, holding offices such as President, Treasurer, and Director Emeritus, as well as Assistant Treasurer and Treasurer for the New Castle County Firefighter Ladies Auxiliary. Norma also enjoyed many other interests including being an avid bowler at Blue Hen Lanes, and a very creative soul, she custom decorated cakes, loved flower arranging, and often amazed family and friends with her beautiful paintings.

In addition to her parents, Norma is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Raymond; their daughter, Sharon Skidmore; and her brother, Warren Foraker. She is survived by her son, James Knox (Rosa Nolan), son-in-law Stephen Skidmore, grandchildren; Jennifer Scott (Jon), Stephanie Skidmore, Michael Knox, and Deborah Knox, great-grandchildren; Gavin Ward, Dylan Skidmore and Brantley Scott, and several nieces and nephews.
