Two Alarm Fire in Salem Village Apartments

Stations 7,8,9,10, along with mutual aid companies, were dispatched to the Salem Village Apartments community for a working alarm. Initially dispatched for a burning odor but quickly upgraded to a working alarm by New Castle County Fireboard after receiving several reports. Upon the arrival of Christiana Fire Company Engine 12-4, fire was showing from the first floor and a aggressive fire attack was initiated. Upon the arrival of 9-8 a second alarm was requested. Upon the arrival of incoming units, an aggressive fire attack continued and searches of all floors made. All residents were able to evacuate the building. However, four residents were transported or evaluated, two in critical condition. The scene was placed under control in approximately 45 minutes, units remained on scene until approximately 0745 hours. One firefighter was evaluated on scene and one firefighter was also transported the Christiana Hospital and later released. The American Red Cross and property management were on scene assisting the families displaced.
