posted May 20, 2014, 9:35 AM by Charles Mitchell
Dover -- The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) reminds motorists to anticipate heavier than normal traffic on Delaware's highways beginning on Friday, May 23.

Planned lane closures on Delaware's major roadways, Route 1, I-95, and U.S. Route 202 will be suspended beginning on Friday, May 23 until midnight on Monday, May 26. Traffic accidents and other unpredictable types of transportation incidents may cause lane closures and/or delays.

DelDOT's Transportation Management Center (TMC) will provide continuous monitoring of traffic conditions across the state. Our radio station, WTMC-1380AM offers motorists real-time traffic information throughout Delaware. Motorists can contact the TMC 24/7 to report any travel or traffic related issues at the following numbers: Dial #77 from any cell phone; (302) 659-4600 or 1-(800) 324-8379.

Motorists can adjust their routes or travel times by using DelDOT's Smartphone application. The DelDOT App is available for Apple & Android smart phones and tablets, and can be downloaded free, search for "DelDOT" at the Apple and Google Play stores. With the DelDOT App you can view real time traffic cameras, travel times, delays, advisories, listen to WTMC 1380 AM travel advisory radio, and much more. The real time travel information is also available on the web at www.map.deldot.gov.

Patrons may also visit the following restaurants: Baja Fresh, Brioche Doree, Famous Famiglia Pizza, Starbucks Coffee, Burger King, Cinnabon/Carvel, and Popeyes.

Additionally, the Smyrna Rest Area just off of Exit 119 on Route 1 is open 24 hours each day for motorists. There are snacks and sodas, and restrooms for the convenience of travelers.

To further aid travelers, the DART First State's Resort Transit will begin seasonal service on Thursday, May 22. DART First State will operate eight transit routes in the resort area serving Rehoboth, Dewey, Bethany, Fenwick, Lewes, Georgetown, Long Neck and Ocean City, Maryland. Transit service operates 7 days a week through Sunday, September 14. Early season hours of operation are reduced until peak season begins on Monday, June 30.

The Route 305 Beach Connection linking Wilmington/Dover to Rehoboth Beach will operate on Friday evenings, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from Friday, May 23 through Monday, September 1. Bus stops include Wilmington Amtrak Station, Christiana Mall, Smyrna Rest Stop, Scarborough Road Park & Ride in Dover, Super Wal-Mart in Milford, and the Rehoboth Park & Ride.

DART is coordinating with the Delaware River & Bay Authority (DRBA) and their Cape May-Lewes Ferry Shuttle Service to connect at the Rehoboth Park & Ride. This collaboration will allow ferry passengers to enjoy the same DART bus travel options around the resort area and to Ocean City, MD.
