Just after 4:30pm on February 15, 2016, Aetna along with mutual aid companies were dispatched to the unit block of Winterhaven Drive in the Autumn Park Apartments for a multi-residential fire.  Crews arrived to find smoke showing from the 3rd floor and roof.  Second and third alarms were struck bringing a response from 12 fire companies, New Castle County Paramedics, New Castle County Police, the New Castle County Office of Emergency Management, New Castle County Emergency Communications, as well as a rehab unit from St. Francis Hospital EMS.  Crews faced challenging weather conditions with the temperature hovering around freezing.  The fire was placed under control just after 6:30pm but crews remained until after 10pm completing overhaul and checking for any hidden fire.  There were no civilian or firefighter injuries and 4 cats were rescued.  12 families were displaced by the fire and are being assisted by the Red Cross as well as management from the apartment complex.  Asst. Chief Sands (7-8B) had Newark Command and the Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office is handing the investigation.  Special thanks to all of the fire companies from Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania who responded and covered our district throughout the fire.
