On December 2, 2011, members and career staff from the Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company were on hand to give support to the Special Olympics of Delaware's Reindeer Run and the City of Newark's Winterfest celebration. This year a record number 1,037 runners registered at Station 9 and 9A and helped to raise over $38,000 for the SODE! After the race, the engine and ladder bays were used to help warm up the participants and provide refreshments. Aetna Fire Police assisted Newark PD with traffic control, and several Aetna members ran in the race. An engine from Hockessin Fire Company was also on hand to cover alarms in the area. The participation in this event continues a decades-long tradition of Aetna support for the Special Olympics of Delaware and is in keeping with our Fire Company Motto: "Service for Others."
