Motor Vehicle Collision

At 1216 hours on May 14, 2016, Aetna along with New Castle County Paramedics, a helicopter from the Delaware State Police, and an ambulance from the Christiana Fire Company, were dispatched to Casho Mill Road at the Railroad underpass for a motor vehicle collision with entrapment.  Crews arrived to find U-Haul moving truck which had struck the underpass.  There were a total of 6 patients (3 adults and 3 teenagers), including one of whom had been trapped but was freed by bystanders prior to Fire Department arrival.  4 of the victims had been unrestrained in the back of the moving truck when it struck the bridge.  All 6 patients were transported to Christiana Hospital: 3 patients were transported with Advanced Life Support (including 1 by helicopter) and 3 were transported Basic Life Support.  Responding crews included Aetna, the New Castle County Paramedics,  Delaware State Police aviation, and ambulances from the Christiana Fire Company, the Cranston Heights Fire Company, and the University of Delaware Emergency Care Unit.  A total of 31 firefighters, EMT's, and Paramedics operated on scene.  The Newark Police Department is handling the investigation.
