posted Jan 10, 2017, 2:37 PM by Jeffrey Sands, Assistant Chief 7-8B
At 0102 hours January 6, 2017, Aetna and mutual aid companies were alerted to a possible structure fire in Old Mill Manor, with a report of smoke in the kitchen.  New Castle County police arrived almost immediately and reported heavy smoke showing.

Stations 8 and 9 were well staffed with duty crews, and A8, Deputy 8, Engine 8 and Ladder 9 arrived quickly and confirmed the conditions reported.  The homeowner of the house was transported to Christiana Hospital by A8 and New Castle County Medic 3B.  The crew from Engine 8 reported a fire in the kitchen and advanced an 1 3/4" line and extinguished the fire.  The crew from Ladder 9 searched the residence for additional occupants.  Christiana Squad 12 and Ladder 12 assisted with a second 1 3/4" line and search, respectively.  Chief 9-8 and Quint 7 also assisted throughout the incident.  Cranston Heights Rescue 14 was the RIT.

Once the fire was extinguished all personnel spent an extensive amount of time carefully overhauling the residence and ensuring there was no fire extension.

Additionally, Mill Creek Creek Squrt 21, Christiana A12 and New Castle County ALS18, ALS24, and Medic 7B responded and stood by on scene.

Elsmere Engine 16, Belvedere 30-6, and Minquas Engine 23 all provided coverage to the Newark area during the incident.

Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office FM6 investigated.  Deputy Chief 8 (Guzzo) had the Newark command.
