HAZMAT Response

On 6/30/2015 at 1646 hours, Aetna was dispatched to the unit block of Fairway Road in the Hunters Crossing Apartments for an odor inside with a sick person.  Arriving responders found the building occupied and promptly evacuated the building as well as the attached exposure building.  The New Castle County HAZMAT/DECON team was requested to respond as well as the University of Delaware HAZMAT Team and NCCEMS.  One civilian was transported to CER for evaluation and 3 firefighters were treated on scene.  The incident is under investigation by the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC).  The operation lasted approx. 2.5 hours and 9-8B (Asst. Chief Fleming) had Newark Command.  Thank you to the Delaware City Fire Company for the BLS cover and the Minquas Fire Company of Newport for the engine cover during the incident.
