Fatal MVC

On the evening of April 4, 2014, Aetna along with NCCEMS Medic 3 and ALS 23 were dispatched to South Chapel Street in the area of Farm Lane for an MVC reported with entrapment.  Station 7 had the duty crew and Captain 7 as well as SQURT 7 quickly made the response followed by 10-2 and Rescue 8.  A-8 arrived first and advised negative entrapment but a total of three patients, one in traumatic arrest.  Crews quickly packaged and transported the three patients and Rescue 8 remained on scene providing lighting.  The patient in traumatic arrest was later pronounced upon arrival at Christiana.  Newark Police are investigating the accident.

Units on Scene: SQURT 7, 10-2, Rescue 8, Captain 7 (Sands), 7-8B (Fox), A-8, A-9, B-7, B-9, NCCEMS Medic 3, NCCEMS ALS 23, and fire police.

Newark Police are investigating a fatal collision which occurred last evening at approximately 10:15pm on Library Avenue (Route 72) just north of Farm Lane. A preliminary investigation has determined that a 2010 Hyundai Accent was travelling southbound on Library Avenue when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the center line and ran head-on into a northbound 2000 Honda Civic. The driver and sole occupant of the 2010 Hyundai Accent was treated at the scene by rescue personnel and transported to Christiana Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.

The  driver and passenger of the 2000 Honda Civic were also treated at the scene and transported to Christiana Hospital. Both sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Route 72 was closed from Wyoming Road to Route 4 for approximately three hours while traffic investigators were on scene. No charges have been filed at this time and no further information on the collision is available at this time.
