EMS Week 2014

The Fire & EMS Service in the United States celebrate Emergency Medical Services Week this year from May 18 through May 24.
The United States Fire Administration has issued the theme for Emergency Medical Services Week as One Mission, One Team.  The USFA has emphasized that the number one mission of the EMS team is to take every measure to ensure our health and safety, not just for EMS Week, but throughout the year.
In the spirit of EMS Week, Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Co sponsored a National EMS Week Barbeque.  This annual event was held at Fire Station 8 on Tuesday May 20th.  The BBQ is one way the officers of the fire department say thank you to our EMS crews.  Local businesses, including Bing's Bakery who provided a cake for the event!
The demands for EMS from society continues to skyrocket.  Aetna expects to handle approximately 8,000 EMS incidents in 2014. Multiple EMS crews man six (6) ambulances operated by the fire department 24 hours a day.  The pressure of continuing education and re-certification for our personnel, along with constant recruitment of new members is a challenge for the fire department.
The motto of Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Co of Newark is Service for Others.  On Tuesday the fire department members, in celebration of Aetna's 125th Anniversary, relaxed for a short time to enjoy grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, and tasty treats in the observance of Emergency Medical Services Week.
