DuPont Hall Fire

Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Co of Newark responded to a fire at the University of Delaware DuPont Hall on Wednesday, April 6.  DuPont Hall is a 3 story Engineering Laboratory located on the University Green.  

Aetna received the call shortly before 5AM.  The University of Delaware Police found evidence of a fire after investigating an alarm sounding in the building.

The fire department arrived to find a fire in a research lab in room 223.  The fire had been contained to the room of origin by the building's fire sprinkler system.  Firefighters completed the extinguishment and removed smoke from the building.  The fire was under control in 30 minutes.  There were no injuries.

Fire & EMS departments on the scene included Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Co of Newark, Christiana Fire Co, Cranston Heights Fire Co, Belvedere Fire Co, West Grove PA Fire Co, and EMS units from Aetna, the University of Delaware Emergency Care Unit and New Castle County EMS.  A total of 40 personnel worked at the scene for 90 minutes. 

The fire is under investigation by the University of Delaware Fire Marshal's Office.
