At 1101 hours on January 7, 2017, Aetna along with mutual aid from Christiana Fire, Mill Creek Fire Company - Stations 2&21, and Cranston Heights Fire Company were dispatched to 46 Fairway Road in the Hunters Crossing Apartments for a building fire. Crews arrived to find smoke on the 1st and 2nd floors with an elderly victim in a hospital bed in need of rescue on the 1st floor. The patient was removed from the building and was transported to Christiana Hospital as handlines were stretched and searches were completed. A dog was also found and was safely removed from the building. Fire was located in the floor and walls which extended into 4 apartments. Additional units responded from Belvedere Fire Company, Five Points Fire Company, Elsmere Fire Company, New Castle County Paramedics, and New Castle County Police Department. The displaced residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office is handling the investigation and Chief Bowerson had Newark Command. Thank you to the Delaware City Volunteer Fire Company, No. 1, Inc., Station 15 and Belvedere Fire Company for providing station coverage during the incident.
