Brookside House Fire

On the evening of June 22nd severe thunderstorms moved across the middle of New Castle County, which included the Newark area.  At 19:31 Aetna, along with Christiana Fire Company (3-6-12), Mill Creek Fire Company (2-21), and Cranston Heights Fire Company (14), was dispatched for a house fire with possible subjects trapped at 18 Merriman Road.  Within minutes after dispatch Captain 7 arrived and reported smoke showing, and was also able to confirm that all subjects were out of the structure.  Engine 9-5 arrived and placed 2 1 3/4" hand lines in service.  Fire was found in the ceiling on the 1st floor and along the D-side wall on the 2nd floor.  9-5's crew began attacking the fire on the 1st floor.  Engine 7-4 arrived and advanced the 2nd hand line to the 2nd floor.  Crews from Ladder 9 and Ladder 12 assisted the engine crews with opening up the walls to check for extension.  The bulk of the fire was quickly extinguished and the incident was placed under control by Deputy 9 at 19:51.  Additional units that were on scene assisted with overhaul in the structure, or they were released.  All units were clear the scene at 21:01. 

Units on Scene: A-7, 7-4, A-8, 8-2, Rescue 8, 9-5, Ladder 9, EMS 9, 10-5, 3-6, Ladder 12, 2-6, 21-6, Rescue 14, Medic 3, and Delaware State Fire Marshal.
