During the mid morning hours on March 12th, Aetna and neighboring companies were alerted to a working house fire in the Brookside community. A9, staffed by career personnel, were in the area and immediately responded. Within 3 minutes of dispatch A9 arrived on scene and reported heavy fire showing side "A". Additionally, A9 found a burn victim in the front yard and called for ALS. Deputy 9 arrived on scene and established Brookside Command.  E95 arrived on scene with a supply line and advanced 2 hose lines to the seat of the fire under the command of Asst. Chief Pedicone. The fire was held to the building of origin. Neighboring departments assisted with fire ground operations. There was 1 patient transported to a local ER and another patient who refused service. Units operated on scene for approximately 2 hours.

With the cooperation of Embassy Suites of Newark and Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder company, Aetna was able to provide a free 1 night stay to the occupant and the Red Cross will provide accommodations after the first night. It is because of Aetna's great partnerships with local Newark businesses, that we are able to provide this service to fire victims.
