Basement Fire

On March 5th at 20:40, Aetna, along with Christiana Fire Company (3-6-12) and Mill Creek Fire Company (2-21), was dispatched for a house fire at 30 Decker Dr in the Chapel Hill neighborhood.  Multiple units were responding within 2 minutes of dispatch.  Engine 9-3 and Chief 9-8 were first to arrive at 20:46 with nothing evident from the exterior of the residence.  The occupants were already outside and they reported that there was a possible fire in the basement.  As 9-3's crew opened the front door of the residence, they were met with smoke all the way to the floor.  9-8 reported that there was an active fire in the basement as 9-3's crew placed a 1 3/4" hand line in service.  As additional engines arrived, 2 5" supply lines were laid into the scene for water supply.  The additional crews from engines 7-4, 8-2, 12-6, and 3-6 as well as Quint 21-7 and Squrt 7, assisted with search, ventilation, placing a back up hand line in service, checking for extension and providing R.I.T.  9-3's crew advanced into the basement and were able to make quick work of the fire, with only minor extension found on the floor above.  9-8 placed the incident under control at 21:03 and held  Aetna units on scene for the overhaul.  Aetna crews operated for about another hour with assisting the Fire Marshal, completing ventilation, overhaul, and placing equipment back in service.  All units were clear the scene by 22:10.
