Apartment Building Ceiling Collapses

posted Jan 23, 2014, 9:09 AM by Charles Mitchell
Frozen pipes burst Wednesday night in a Newark apartment building, causing the ceiling to collapse and temporarily displacing residents, officials said. The incident was reported at 6:45 p.m. in the Woodmont Garden Apartments in the first block of Country Club Drive, an emergency dispatch official said. The pipes that froze were in the attic of the apartment building, gushing water onto the ceiling and causing its collapse, said Fire Chief A.J. Schall of the Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company of Newark. No one was injured, he said. Management of the apartment building is relocating residents for a few days during repairs, Schall said. The case was referred to the City of Newark’s building department for follow-up, he said.
