A Continuing Tradition

Members of Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Co., and Newark area residents pose for a photograph after ringing the fire company's original, belfry mounted, 1905 alarm bell . On this special occasion, the several hundred pound bell was rung to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the loss of 343 fire service members  in the World Trade Tower attack. In addition to ringing the bell in a sequence of 3–4–3 and the traditional FDNY 5–5–5–5, the name of each firefighter was read in association with their apparatus or position in FDNY. Aetna follows the same bell ringing tradition each year in honoring the nation's fallen firefighters.
