9/11 Memorial Walk

On Sunday September 8, 2013, Aetna members, along with firefighters from across Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, participated in a 9/11 Memorial Walk sponsored by the First State Fraternal Order of Leatherheads (F.O.O.L.S.).  The walk is in honor of the 343 active duty firefighters and 3 retired firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.  The one mile walk raises money for the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation in their honor.  Each walker received a card with the name of one of these firefighters which was read at the end of the walk and the 9/11 memorial bell was run for each fallen firefighter.  Aetna members participated in the walk in full turnout gear, carrying hand tools, SCBA’s, and high rise hose packs just as firefighters did on 9/11.  On 9/11 some firefighters managed to climb over 70 floors in an attempt to reach victims in the World Trade Center, so a mile without stairs wasn’t too bad! This was a memorable experience for all involved and we thank everyone who participated!
